Wokingham Borough Council has released a ‘tackling domestic abuse in the borough’ video, letting residents, victims and survivors know that support is available locally.
Executive member for neighbourhood and communities Cllr Bill Soane said, “We are working hard to deliver the Domestic Abuse Strategy (2021-2024), to support victims, survivors and their families living in our borough and encourage those who are perpetrating abuse to access help to address their behaviour.
“It is estimated that one in ten of our residents will be affected by domestic abuse each year, and it is our priority to ensure our borough and communities remain safe for all residents and those who flee domestic abuse. We want residents, victims and survivors to feel safe, acknowledged and heard, whilst being able to access quality support.”
Help and support is available to all domestic abuse victims and survivors regardless of age, race, gender, sexual preference, faith, disability or financial status.
Local help and support available includes:
· Phoning the Cranstoun domestic abuse helpline on (0118) 402 1921
· Completing an online referral form on the Cranstoun website
· Visiting the voluntary community sector hub at Waterford House, Erftstadt Court, Wokingham, RG40 2YF to access a private space to speak to a member of the team for help
· Looking at the information on the council’s domestic abuse webpage to find local service support and local peer based and specialist domestic abuse services. Practical support is available through the council’s housing team, legal options and organisations who can help with economic abuse and many other services
· Asking for ‘ANI’ at participating pharmacies in the borough and a trained pharmacy member will offer a private room to phone the domestic abuse service
· Calling 999 in an emergency
