Peter Harper is one of our Conservative Councillors for Finchampstead North. He was first elected at the Wokingham Borough Council Elections in May 2022.
"My wife and I moved to Finchampstead over 7 years ago from neighbouring Camberley. We love the area, especially the green spaces, leisure facilities and the new Wokingham town centre.
I am a self-employed IT consultant and I have served as a councillor in the past. Being self employed I can make time to work on your behalf and I have the experience to get things done in the Council.
Wokingham Borough is often voted one of the top places in the country to live and this attracts more and more people who want to live here. We need to protect the village from development and maintain the facilities for local residents. More houses will put pressure on the doctors, schools and roads.
I will work with the other Finchampstead councillors to fight against over development and to preserve the character of the village.
I pledge to vote against including Rooks Nest Farm as a development site in the local plan.
The Council have made big improvements in Wokingham town centre and continue to invest in facilities such as the new Carnival Pool Leisure Centre but I want to see more investment in the villages. California Country Park is a unique facility for people across the borough which needs continuing investment. Pinewood, whilst outside the village, provides a great mix of clubs and other services and needs to be supported and enhanced.
As a local resident with experience serving on a Council, I believe I can make a difference to the people of Finchampstead."
Peter's key pledges are to:
1. Continue to Oppose the Rooks Nest Farm Development;
2. Provide a Sixth Form at Bohunt;
3. Increase Recycling Rates and Reduce Waste;
4. Fix Potholes and Improve Roads;
5. Fight Excessive House Building;
6. Increase Cycle Lanes Across the Area
